我校图书馆始建于1951年，1980年重新建馆， 2002年又扩建新馆，馆舍总面积达28755平方米。新馆为双塔楼，共17层，高85米。设有电子阅览室、声像阅览室、工具书阅览室、报刊阅览室、古籍文献阅览室、专业图书借阅室、民族文献阅览室等28个阅览室。

1、部门设置：图书馆设有党总支、馆办公室、采访部、编目部、流通部、阅览部、技术管理部、信息开发咨询部。

2、职工队伍：图书馆现有工作人员131人。正式职工中大专以上55人，本科以上58人，研究生4人，在读博士1人，有高级职称者16人，职工队伍结构比较合理。

3、馆藏。目前我馆已形成具有本校特色、结构合理、质量较高的图书馆藏体系，全校馆藏文献总量130万多册。文献内容包括文史哲、数理化、经济、法律、教育、管理、外语、电子工程、计算技术、生物医学等学科。特别是少数民族文献是我馆的特色馆藏，约有10万余册。文献类型以印刷型出版物为主，外文文献语种有英、日、俄、法、德等多种语言。

同时，图书馆相继建起了中国学术期刊光盘镜像站点和包括30万册电子图书的数字图书馆，安装了中国资讯数据库、Springer LINK科学文献库等各种中外电子信息资源。全馆可供阅览的微机共计500台。其中1层南楼电子阅览室（140台）可免费上机查阅图书馆所有网上电子资料。图书馆网上资源面对全校24小时开放。

4、发展前景。学校党委和行政十分重视图书馆的发展和图书文献资料建设。“十五”期间，图书馆将进一步加大各类纸质图书的购买力度，筹建中南地区最大的民族文献中心。与此同时，图书馆要重点加强图书文献的电子化、网络化、数字化建设，不断扩充图书馆电子图书和电子期刊的内容，并根据学校教学科研的需要，购置各学科门类所必需的中外文专业数据库，有计划地新增一些光盘数据库等，让全校师生员工更方便、快捷地利用我校数字图书馆的资源，使图书馆真正成为我校广大师生教学、科研的文献资料基地和信息发布中心。

About South Central University for Nationalities Library

South Central University for Nationalities Library was established in 1951.It had possessed certain scale in early 1960s. It was rebuilt in 1980 and had 7091 square meters of floor space. In 2002,a new library building was founded, which had more than 20000 square meters. The library building was expanded to 28755 square meters. The new library building is double-tower building. It’s 85 meters high and is 17-story building. It has total 28 Reading Rooms such as E-reading Room, Audio-visual Reading Room, Reference book Reading Room, Newspaper and Periodical Reading Room, Historical Documents Reading Room, Professional books in circulation Reading Room, Ethnic Documents Reading Room, etc.

1.       Departments.

The library has departments of General Party Branch, Library Office, Acquisition, Cataloging, Circulation, Reading, Technology management, information exploiting and reference.

2.Works and Staff members.

    There are 101 members in the library. Among them, fifty-five members have diploma of institutions of higher education and thirty-four members have undergraduate diploma. Four members are postgraduate. There are six comrades diligently studying for Master’s degree. Fourteen members have high-ranking professional post. The composition of workers and staff members is more equitable.

3.The collection held by the library.

At present, the library has held collection system that has the University’s distinguishing feature, a suitable construction and high quality. The collection held by the library amounts to 1.25 million volumes (including reference rooms). The documents content includes several subjects such as literature, history, philosophy, math, physics, chemistry, economics, the science of law, education, management, foreign language, electric engineering, computer technology, biological and medical science etc. Especially the Ethnic Documents is the characteristic collection of the library. It is about 100 thousands volumes. The Ethnic Documents type is mainly composed of printing publication. Foreign language documents type includes English, Japanese, Russian, France, and Germany etc.

 The university has invested 300 thousands Yuan (RMB) since 1997 to strengthen the library automation and advanced construction. It has established a local area network and integrated library system--ILAS II System that is exploited by Shenzhen Library. The ILAS II System includes modules, such as book and periodical collecting, cataloging, book reservation, circulating, a publicly accessible catalogue etc. The library has established China academic journal CD-ROMS mirror image website (http://cnki.lib.scuec.edu.cn/) and a digital library including 300 thousands E-books. The library has also introduced China info bank (http://www.bjinfobank.com/) and foreign online databases and E-journals such as Springer LINK science database, OCLC, academic Press and others. The library has had two E-reading Rooms in which are two hundreds and eighty Pentium 4 superior quality computers. There are also a Multimedia E-reading Room and a Audio-visual Reading Room each having 100 computers. There are twenty publicly accessible catalogue computers. The library total PCs number is 500. You are free of charge searching for all the library electric information in south E-reading Room on floor 1. You can read Audio-visual materials in the Audio-visual Reading Room. The electronic resources of the library are available on line 24 hours per day. You can search the library book catalogue and read E-books; E-journals in any computer belong to this campus network. You can also read, download, print and copy full documents.

4.The library prospect.

 The university Party committee and administration department has paid great attention to the development of the library and the construction of documents and reference information data.

During the tenth five-years plan, the library will strengthen to buy more books printing publication. We lay stress on construct electronic library, network and digital library. At the same time, we’ll build the largest Ethnic Documents Center within south-central area. We not only expand the content of library E-books and E-journals but also introduce many Chinese or foreign online databases, E-journals and increase some CD-ROMS databases according to the necessary of teaching and research. All subject courses will need these documents.  Every resident of this campus can use the digital library resources more conveniently and rapidly. The library’s goal is really to become a teaching and research base of all teachers and students and to turn into an information-releasing center.
